“What was billed as a citywide demonstration against “‘police lawlessness” last Saturday night (February 11), ended up as a highly successful protest on the Sunset Strip and provided a staging ground for the first militant homosexual march against police harassment (and was ignored by the daily press). About 3,000 persons attended the Strip rally which began in front of Pandora’s Box at Sunset and Crescent Heights Blvd. Another 500 to 600 were present at the same time at Sunset and Hyperion in the Silverlake District to protest New Year’s Eve raids against gay bars in that area.”
