It is time. Time to take back the hallowed symbols of our history that all of us as American citizens have a right to honor and cherish as part of our ongoing legacy of freedom and equality. America is not so much a place as it is a people and regardless of the intentions to divide us, we are all the sons and the daughters of the conquerors and not the conquered. It is We the People, regardless of race, creed or color, national origin, gender, sexual preference or religious affiliation who carry the torch of liberty and it is we who will watch the tides of history swallow whole the ignoble among us. Those who would foment strife through racism. Those who would in the name of divinity condemn women to the status of chattel. Those who place the right to ownership of a cold, dead lifeless, weapon above the life of a child but only once it’s born. The sin of original sin, the child’s only transgression.

It is time we associate the words patriot and patriotic with the true patriots who everyday continue to be brave in the face of open and ongoing racial animus. Those who would cage children and call it an immigration/asylum program. Those who justify their nefarious schemes in a false shroud narrative of nepotism, cronyism and capitalism.
We must reject those individuals and their claims to represent the Spirit of 76. Those born free but cannot understand the US Civil War was fought by persons who were already free to free their brothers and sisters who were denied even the most basic due process rights of personhood, life, liberty and property.

Today, we have a junior varsity grade protoplasmic wannabe junta rolling out it’s testosterone toys onto the public streets of Washington DC. I for one, will raise the Betsy Ross flag in dissent. It is our flag, our legacy our right to resist just as our forefathers did before us. It’s ring of 13 stars a symbol of our eternal and thus ongoing shared struggle for peace and equality for all.

I will proudly fly the Bennington Flag. Named for its possible use during the 1777 Revolutionary War at the Battle of Bennington, it clearly represents the Vermont militia’s reverence for the true patriot’s Spirit of 1776.

Trump, Don’t Tread on Me. I will raise the Gadsden Flag in unity with the brave Continental marines who fought for a country of their own from the tyrannical rule of a delusional, deranged and yes, insane monarch.

The Serapis Flag, raised on the captured British Frigate of the same name by John Paul Jones during the most famous naval battle of the Revolutionary War.

I will fly the original Star-Spangled Banner or the Great Garrison Flag, the garrison flag in 1814 flying over Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor. The one “still there” in the dawn’s early light. Still there, even now, at this moment of intense darkness.

Lastly, I will never hesitate to unfurl our current colors honoring all fifty of our present states, the American flag, The Stars and Stripes; the Red, White and Blue, Old Glory, The Star-spangled Banner, the US Flag, the Flag of the United States of America.

Know your patriots. Know your flags. Fly them proudly. Don’t believe the phony fireworks, tanks or hype. Happy 4th of July!
